Boxers are silly, sweet and mischievous. They clown around with family and friends, are patient and playful with children, but show a deliberate and wary face to strangers, responding with unmatched courage to anything that threatens their loved ones. Those characteristics are why people love them.
If you are ready to add a boxer to your home you have come to the right place!
The Winnipeg Boxer Rescue began in 1999 in the city of Winnipeg. Tracy is extremely passionate about the dogs that she cares for and genuinely cares for the people who are owned by them. As the main contact for the rescue with a huge heart for this breed (as well as many others) Tracy pours her heart into each and every interaction she has with the dogs and the people that she comes in contact with.
Although the goal is to find loving, healthy, happy homes for all boxers, there are some cases that the rescue can’t help, and that is heartbreaking for Tracy.
The rescue is 100% run by volunteers and all financial decisions are made by the director, Tracy McKay.
Adoptions include Distemper/Parvo vaccines (boosters if required), rabies, deworming, heartworm testing (if required), and sterilization . Sterilization in our puppies will now be over a yr old, we want to ensure that every chance for growth and health is given.
This is the minimum vet service, there are usually other things that are done that we don’t recoup our cost on.
Adoption fees- are currently reduced
Puppies (under 24 months) $500
Adults (under the age of 7 yrs old) $450
Seniors (8 yrs and older) $300
~ These fees are subject to change without notice~

Two Week Dog Shutdown
The 2-Week Shutdown, also known as the Decompression Phase, is a vital period for dogs transitioning from a shelter or rescue environment to their new home. During this time, it’s essential to provide a calm and predictable environment, allowing the dog to decompress and adjust to their new surroundings.
Why is the 2-Week Shutdown necessary?
Reducing stress and anxiety: Dogs in shelters often experience chronic stress, which can lead to behavioral issues. The 2-Week Shutdown helps to mitigate this stress, allowing the dog to relax and feel more secure.
Preventing misbehavior: Without proper adjustment, dogs may exhibit unwanted behaviors like barking, whining, or destructive tendencies. The shutdown phase helps to prevent these behaviors by providing a calm and structured environment.
Building trust: By giving the dog time to adjust, you can establish a strong bond and build trust, making future training and socialization more effective.
Tips for implementing the 2-Week Shutdown:
Keep it quiet and calm: Minimize noise and stimulation, creating a peaceful atmosphere.
Establish a routine: Stick to a regular schedule for feeding, exercise, and playtime.
Provide a safe space: Designate a quiet area where the dog can retreat if feeling overwhelmed.
Avoid new stimuli: Refrain from introducing new people, pets, or environments during this phase.
Exercise, but not excessively: Engage in gentle, low-key exercise, such as short walks or playtime in a controlled environment.
Monitor and adjust: Observe your dog’s behavior and adjust your approach as needed to ensure a smooth transition.
What to expect during the 2-Week Shutdown:
Initial adjustment: Your dog may be hesitant or withdrawn at first, but this is normal.
Gradual relaxation: As the dog becomes more comfortable, they’ll begin to relax and show more interest in their surroundings.
Improved behavior: With a calm environment, your dog’s behavior should improve, and they’ll become more receptive to training and socialization.
By implementing the 2-Week Shutdown, you’ll set your dog up for success and create a strong foundation for a happy, healthy relationship. Remember to be patient, consistent, and gentle, and you’ll be rewarded with a well-adjusted and loving companion.
